In France Pierre-Marie Gallois, the French Army general in charge of the French atomic bomb program in the 50s, declared (in 95, after retirement) that he was against using depleted uranium shells. He actually said it’s a crime against humanity, because he perfectly understood (as THE man in charge of the nuclear bomb programme) it is NOT needed for armour piercing ! I’ll add that I myself do NOT campaign for an end to the atomic bomb (which explains maybe the lack of interest of groups like Greenpeace for my realistic campaign).
What he said to mainstream journal VSD (at a time where the French media were still allowed to talk about depleted uranium, i.e. before 11/09/2001) : “The effects induced by the propagation of particulates of uranium following the explosions are, we want it or not – even indirectly – on the range of chemical warfare. Admitting the generalization of this type of weapon amounts to legalizing contamination with radioactivity. This cannot be considered as anything else than a crime against humanity ! (…) the people of Iraq is afflicted by our efforts of an incurable plague that we civilized peoples have the responsible of !”
I provide an ever growing list of proof of the massive use of depleted uranium in cruise missiles, guided bombs, antitank missiles, artillery, etc.
